The Alt Plan...

To keep myself occupied during the interminable wait for Legion, I have come up with a plan!
I do like having a plan.

I have my Shaman (and now Mage) for main raiding.  He also does all the other stuff that comes with being a main... rep grinds, transmog, etc.

But my main has been doing all that for a long time now and needs minimal attention between raids.

So... plenty of time for the plan!

The aim is to have the Legendary Ring,  4-set bonus and Archimonde trinket on 4 (so far) more chars:
Rogue
Hunter (will skip the trinket)
Priest
Paladin

Then have a full run, hopefully on Heroic, with all of these OP items to see how they perform before exchanging them for some quest greens in Legion.

Rogue:
Seemed like the best place to start as I can already play it.
Subtlety is supposed to be the go-to single target spec though and I was least practiced on that as it was traditionally considered to be the 'PvP spec'.

The reality of raiding in HFC though is that there aren't many pure single target fights so Combat is almost always better anyway.
Given the different stat priorities, it's not really viable to gear for both on an alt so I plumped for the more versatile (and much simpler) Combat... Blade Flurry OP much?

Already up to the Tome-collection part of the Legendary, it didn't take long to complete the ring and the greatest difficulty seemed to be getting into pugs as a melee dps.

Definitely the most advanced along the plan with the ring, 3/4 tier pieces and 711ilvl but the amount of time spent trying to get into pugs is quite tiresome.

Hunter:
Barely touched since hitting the pugging wall back in BRF but the garrison and shipyard have kept her plodding along with the ring, just the Tomes to collect.

Gear is probably the biggest issue now, sat at 680ilvl, but a few trips to the jungle should help bridge the gap (and there's always PvP... yeah, right)

Hasn't actually set foot in HFC yet and probably needs to spec out of Survival before I try any pugs.

Priest:
A mixture of Baleful, Crafted and BoE gear has taken the priest to 691ilvl, ready to jump into some pugs but not actually done any yet.

Based on LFR experiences, which admittedly doesn't tell you much, it's incredibly er... spammy to play.  Throw PW:Shield on anything that looks like it might take some damage at some point, fill with Penance and Smite.

I think I need to look into it a bit more, surely there is more to it than that?

Furthest behind on the Ring, still working on the Runes from BRF.

Paladin:
My white whale.  My Eleanor.  My unicorn.

Combine a lack of confidence as a tank with a fear of pugging and this guy struggles to make it out of his garrison.
One day, before I finish playing this game, I will be a decent tank.

That day hasn't arrived yet though  :-s

So far he has ventured into Hellbreach LFR twice and Halls of Blood LFR once, none of them were pleasant experiences.

The garrison means he only needs Tomes for the ring and Tanaan/Auction House has taken his gear to 692ilvl.
Getting the tier set and Archi trinket though will require some actual raiding at some point.

I'll let you know if that happens... don't hold your breath.

Mythic Mage-ing

Well... it's been a while eh?

What have you been up to?

Recently, I have all but abandoned the call of the elements to pursue the power of the arcane.  As I can't think of a suitably cringeworthy pun title for a mage blog though, I'll post about it here  :-)

We last saw our Shaman just before Blizzcon bemoaning the efforts of his raid team on Hellfire Assault Mythic.
While I restricted my moaning to this blog, most of our raid team couldn't do the same and the atmosphere in the raids became quite strained.

A little adversity and the raid descended into a mess of finger-pointing and flaming.
Each raid night, each attempt even, it took less and less to start the blame game running.

Now, it might just be me getting old, but I can't be bothered with all that crap.

So I stopped raiding.

Quietly, while all this was going on, my Frost Mage had been slowly gearing himself up...

He had pugged his way to 12/13 normal and was looking for a guild.  He found a nice, casual 2 nights/week team which raided on the off-nights of my Shaman's guild so I had options to raid all week.

They were only 6/13HC but that suited me perfectly, I only wanted some casual raiding on an alt and I had a lot of fun in those first few raids.

When the Shaman's guild turned sour, it was an easy decision to just focus more on the Mage.

Each week the Mage's guild would make more progress and, around the time of the moose patch, I was progressing on Archimonde Heroic yet again.

The fairly rapid progress of the guild, allied with aggressive recruiting made me realise I had misread the situation.
This was less of a casual guild plodding their way through to Legion and more of a committed raid guild that had just arrived late to the WoD party.

Archi HC didn't last long and the push began to find those last couple of players for Mythic.

I'll be completely honest... By that point, I couldn't care less about Mythic HFC.
I was just looking for some chilled-out raids on some alts, I didn't need 'real' progress destroying my fun in another guild.

I left the decision-making roles behind long ago though so I just have to go along with what the officers decide... or move again.

And, believe me, I'm tired of moving.

Mythic here we come!
